Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and The Remote Office LLC for the use of The Remote Office. By creating an account or entering an office, you accept them.

What the service is

A virtual office. You move an avatar around a map, and audio and video connect you to whoever is standing nearby. Workspaces are separate from one another, and a workspace's owners control who may enter it.

Accounts

Acceptable use

Do not use The Remote Office to:

We may suspend an account or a workspace that does these things. Where the harm is not urgent, we will say what is wrong and give you a chance to put it right first.

Payment

Your content

What you and your team say and share is yours. We claim no ownership of it, and we do not use it to train anything. We hold only what the Privacy Policy describes — notably, conversations are not recorded and messages are not stored, so most of what happens in your office never exists as data we could have.

Our software

The Remote Office, including its software, artwork, and name, belongs to The Remote Office LLC. You may use it while these terms are in force; you may not copy, reverse-engineer, or resell it.

Third-party services

The product depends on services we do not control — Vercel, Render, LiveKit, Stripe, and Google. Their outages are our problem to work around, but their conduct is not something we can promise you.

Availability

We aim to keep The Remote Office running and to give notice of planned maintenance, but we do not offer a service-level agreement and the service is provided as-is. If you need a contractual uptime commitment, talk to us and we will write one rather than pretend this page is one.

Ending it

You may stop at any time by cancelling and deleting your workspace. We may end this agreement if you break these terms materially, or with 30 days' notice for any other reason — in which case we will refund the unused part of anything you have paid.

Disclaimers and liability

To the extent the law allows, The Remote Office is provided without warranties of any kind, and The Remote Office LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost profits or data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The state and federal courts located in California have exclusive jurisdiction, and we each consent to that.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be emailed to workspace owners at least 30 days before they take effect, and continuing to use the service after that means you accept them.
